Experience stress-free country living at this one-of-a-kind Texas Hill Country home

Situated among live oaks on a mile of San Gabriel River frontage, 172 acres of working farmland, and full of history, this Texas Hill Country Home on a Georgetown ranch is sure to captivate the whole group with its stunning views, terraced patios and original charm.

Throughout this thoughtfully designed home, you’ll marvel at unique touches that speak to its special appeal

– From the hand-laid stone pulled from the river, to the 5-tiered waterfall out back. You’ll even find framed prints of art painted by previous owner and artist C.P. Montague (who happened to be one of Lyndon B. Johnson’s favorite) decorating the walls.

The open living area offers plenty of air conditioned space to catch up with friends, while the gourmet kitchen provides all you need to prep family-style meals, including a dishwasher for easy clean-up.

Curl up with a book by the wood-burning fireplace (wood provided), host family movie night on the 52” flat screen TV and DVD player, or stream your favorite show through Wi-Fi on your devices.

Two luxurious king suites come complete with light-filled sitting rooms and beautiful linens.

A queen sleeper sofa in the living alcove and additional 22” queen inflatable mattress with comfy bedding creates room for up to 8 travelers. If you brought the little one, a Pack-n-play and high chair are available too.

Two baths, one with a walk-in shower, the other with a square soaking tub offers a convenient way to share space. A front-load washer and dryer helps keep packing light.

An entertainer’s paradise lies just outside!

Relax with a glass of wine on multi-level terraced patios while listening to the soothing cascading waterfall, or the fountain in the pond below. Fire up the charcoal grill and large smoker and dine alfresco with the whole group. At dusk, a fire pit awaits for story swapping, S’mores making, and stargazing.

Just 10 minutes down the road is historic Georgetown with its museums and live music.

Shopping at IKEA and the outlet mall is just 20 minutes away, and you’ll be in the heart of Austin in 30 minutes.

Or stay close to home and find great fishing in the San Gabriel River, along with 172 acres for hiking and birding.

Be sure to check out our farm tour where the whole family can learn about local fossils, search for arrowheads, engage with the animals, or take tractor rides. Don’t forget your pets! Open acres of leash-free space is a dog’s dream come true at this Texas Hill Country home.

Ditch the city life for the serenity of the Texas countryside and come see what it’s like to live on a working farm and explore a living museum!

I would love it if you would post a photo of you and/or your pet enjoying the home and the farm on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!

We are so happy we chose this beautiful property,

We are so happy we chose this beautiful property, Rocky Overlook, for our stay in Georgetown and wish we had known about it all the years we visited family here! Georgetown is our extended family hub so we visit here often and usually stay in a hotel in Round Rock. This time there was a wedding and we needed to be closer so we tried Home Away. This property is absolutely beautiful and private and comfortable and clean. Sheron and Dan are the nicest couple -we felt like we had known them forever. I can’t say enough about the house- has everything you could need, it is very unique and beautiful, the property is so pretty and conducive to all kinds of outdoor activities. It is quiet and private because it’s outside of town, but once we drove there the first time, it was very easy to get to town in minutes! We absolute felt at home from the moment of our arrival. I recommend this property wholeheartedly and without reservation! And quite honestly, we are super picky.

The greatest experience, made trip a perfect get-a-way. It is hard to express - special, relaxed, calm and tranquil in a few words about our stay. I had two of my grandkids and their Aunt with me and expected we would have a great time. The home (Rocky Overlook) was beautiful on the computer. I did not expect the amazing service we were given, from the time we opened the front door and found the homemade chocolate chip muffins we felt at home!

The family that owns the property truly went out of their way for each of us - it is out of this world amazing. There were many special little things that meant so much. Sheron took us on a tour of the property that we all enjoyed. My grandkids were allowed to gather fresh eggs from the chicken coop, they were taken on a tractor ride by Dan. We wee driven to a special location for the river floating and shown exactly where to come out. this place is off the chart perfect. The home had everything we needed. With two kids we went through some towels, and there were still plenty. Very well stocked, down to a water bowl for my fur baby.

I have stayed in many rental homes and this one is by far the best. The yard, the location, the home, the service and the family were super friendly. We had to come home Sunday morning for church, but we extended our stay until the last minute. I promise you will have no regrets - it was exceptional! I will definitely make a return visit.

You can have the city. I'll take this! Date of Stay Dec 26, 2016
Sometimes a person takes a chance and hopes what they sign up for is what they get. When booking a property to rent for a vacation is based on photos and other people’s opinions, I’d say that’s taking a chance. We took a chance on Sheron Scurlock’s Rocky Overlook property and were not disappointed. It is a quiet and private home nestled in the Texas countryside. Sheron was very accommodating and thorough throughout the entire process, from booking to arrival. The home was tidy and well furnished with plenty of space for our family of four adults. We enjoyed the outside patio even though it was the end of December. The wood pile for bonfires was amazing. The weather was wonderful! Dan and Sheron must have worked their magic for us Iowans in that regard and we enjoyed EVERY minute! Take time to walk to the San Gabriel river that runs by the property. There is even a little map describing how to get there. Lots of rock shoreline make for some pretty awesome family pictures. If you want to stay somewhere away from the city and crazy traffic, this is the place. In 10 short miles you can be in a hub of restaurants and shopping in Georgetown where you will encounter both old and historic, and new and trendy. We enjoyed our stay at Rocky Overlook and would definitely consider staying here again. The only thing we really needed was more time to enjoy with our family in Cedar Park and Liberty Hill.

Better than expected
Everything was perfect. House is even better than the pictures. Very clean, updated and full of amenities. We prepared Christmas dinner there. Great fire pit. Very peaceful and private.

Sooo beautiful and comfortable
Sheron communicated wonderfully throughout the process. The property is extremely comfortable. The kitchen has everything you would want. We were welcomed with our large dogs, we felt like family. Thank you Sheron, I hope we see you again soon! CATHRYN C. Houston 5*

Great Stay in Georgetown
Sep 28, 2016 This is a really neat place to stay outside of Georgetown if you are looking for something a little more quiet. We took our two year old for three nights, and enjoyed the home and farm. The owners will take you on a tour, which is a nice way to see what is where, where the gates and river are, etc. The animals (goats, cows, chickens) are not penned up, so the tour will also let you get close up without having to chase them down on foot :). The river access was great, and though it was too cold for us at the time of the visit, it looked like a nice spot to get in and splash around. The bed was comfortable and the house is great…no movie channels, so take DVDs if you want a movie night. (Some are provided). Overall we had a great stay with no complaints! The only thing I would add is that the Rocky Overlook is indeed rocky…this is clearly written in the description, but I just wanted to clarify for anyone taking little ones. The back yard is terraced, and a bit steep for small children. Our two year old was easily able to navigate the area, but a little too well- he wanted to run down and balance on the edges. There is no giant drop off or anything- just a couple of feet that wouldn’t be a big deal for a four or five year old, but would mean a scraped up toddler. There is plenty of side and front yard (and the rest of the farm) for them to run around without giving you a heart attack. Amanda, Corpus Christi
Beautiful House with Character on Wonderful Landscape
Sep 2, 2016 We had a wonderful time at Sheron’s house over Labor Day weekend. There is plenty of room outside to spread out, and many great amenities that the property has to offer. I was unaware that this was an artist’s home who had sold paintings to LBJ! Too cool. Beautiful artwork inside as well. Only caveat i’ll mention is that to sleep 8, you’ll be in some pretty tight quarters for sleeping. While the house is more than spacious enough to accommodate- you’ll have a crowded common area with a sleeper & two inflatable mattresses if you take it to max occupancy. Also Sheron’s muffins were excellent and a great treat for everyone. Thanks so much for your hospitality. Kevin D (& Family), Dallas
So quiet and peaceful!
Aug 18, 2016 Very serene location-just a quick 10 minute drive to Southwestern University. Love the history of the home! The owner made us delicious homemade muffins with their fresh eggs upon our arrival- my son said they were the best he’d ever had! Nice and clean and comfortable. I highly recommend for a relaxing getaway! the Widoff family, CO
Perfect getaway with busy family!
Aug 9, 2016 Absolutely an amazing time. Just what the family needed before school starts. Reminds me of going to visit my childhood home with all its comforts. We will be back! Elizabeth G, Dallas
Amazing-Quiet and Peaceful
Aug 4, 2016 We chose Scurlock Farms because we wanted a quiet and peaceful area for the weekend. Sheron was super sweet, she gave us a tour of the farm plus let us hang out with the animals which was so much fun. She spoiled us with fruit and homemade muffins that were so good! The home was clean and cozy, and it had everything that we needed for our stay. I highly recommend staying here if your looking for a nice and quiet place with lots of things to see and do so close by. Thank you so much for everything Sheron! Jennifer R, Houston
A spacious, clean, and comfortable getaway!
Jul 7, 2016 What a lovely home and property! I stayed for two nights, along with 6 family members, and we had the best time at Rocky Overlook. We were far enough from city pollution to see stars at night, yet a convenient and quick drive to get any groceries or supplies. Sheron keeps a well-maintained, clean, and amenity filled home. Never a shortage of clean, soft, towels or linens. The kitchen was stocked with lots of choices for cookware and dishes. She made herself available to our every question and need, but gave considerate space as well. She even delivered the most delicious home-made muffins and fresh fruit! The house was spacious, yet kitschy and cozy; but the outdoor areas were the real draw! This property has 2 spacious patios, with ample seating and lighting for enjoying the natural beauty surrounding you. Serene and secluded river access is a 5 minute walk, through a well-mowed field, and down a slight inclined path. No one in our group had much trouble with the trek, though it may prove a bit more difficult for older or disabled guests. The large rock formations by the river provide plenty of room for spreading out and exploring, though shade is scarce in that area- so stock up on sunscreen! Inner tubes proved to be a lot of fun, though there are some parts where the water is shallow but still a bit swift! We felt very safe and comfortable overall! I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet and nature-filled getaway. My only regret is not seeing more of the farm property! Sheron is a lovely hostess, and would make any guest feel attended to and welcome! Hannah M.
Beautiful, peaceful, and comforting home on the property!
Jul 16, 2016 I highly enjoyed our stay here at scurlock farms. This was a very beautiful peace of property and the house was very nice, very clean and it was comfortable for our entire family. Our teenage boys enjoyed being able to be in a place like we live at around home. They enjoyed going down to the river for a few swims also. We will definitely stay here again if ever in the area. I highly recommend staying here if anyone is in this area for a few days!! You will enjoy every bit of it as we did. Kayla E.
Awesome weekend getaway!
Jul 14, 2016 My friends and I had an amazing weekend at Rocky Overlook. The house was stunning. We spent most of our time on the beautiful, spacious patio. We grilled every night. The bathroom was like an escape to paradise. The best thing was the separation from the city, exactly what we were looking for. Even our dogs had a blast. The owners were generous and friendly— they even provided us with fruit and muffins. These little touches really made the trip memorable. We fully plan on returning as soon as possible. Rhonda J,San Antonio
Very Spacious and Conveniently Located
Jul 9, 2016 Oddly located near a neighborhood, yet far enough away and once inside you feel quite secluded as the area of the house which is most used is enclosed by trees, flowers and lush underbrush and plantings. The Great Room and Kitchen give you an almost panoramic view of the patio and terraces with fountains, private seating areas and group areas all shaded by a canopy of trees. Once outside, you can sit and enjoy the cardinals, hummingbirds and butterflies who visit often. Indoors, the house is very spacious and nicely appointed. I found a nook behind the kitchen to paint, while the kids slept in and my husband sat out on the patio reading. The description of the sleeping arrangements was a little difficult to understand, but there are two lovely bedrooms with a king size bed in each. There is a sofa bed which closes off nicely with a screen, but more suitable to a couple of youths. There is a blow up mattress for which there is plenty of room. Located very close to Georgetown which is a lovely place for antiquing and shopping and is truly a Town Square! Live music is abound on weekends. Don’t miss the Blue Hole, Inner Space Caverns, the Outlet Mall, Farmers Market, Monument Café and Dos Salsas! Fishing was great on the San Gabriel, which borders the property. The water was high enough for a good float, but rather warm with the exception of a cloudy day. On this day, the temperature was fabulous! I would love to come back in the late fall or early spring so that we could use the beautiful fireplaces which are made of the same stone as the entire house! Jill H, Manvel TX

Unique property, lovely hospitality
May 29, 2016 A working farm with a spring creek and a short hike to a lovely river. The owner, Sheron, was a delightful hostess giving us tours of the (extensive!) property, bringing us fresh-from-her-oven muffins, etc. Alexander B, Houston
Gorgeous spacious home/everything and more than we expected
Apr 21, 2016 Would have to say this was the most beautifully decorated and well thought out B&B we have ever stayed in. Everything you would need was there in the home for us and so much more. Our biggest regret was not staying longer. The house is so well decorated and is located in such lovely surroundings. Beautiful multi level patios for lots of out door entertaining if you needed it. Was close enough to everything in town so it was super convenient. We honestly did not want to leave. For the price it is well worth having a whole house to your self instead of a traditional room you would get with a B&B. Snickerdoodle muffins were awesome. We had some car trouble and the Owners went out of their way to help us. This was huge considering we were strangers. But, strangers no more and we are planning to go back at the end of summer. We both left missing it already and both agreed we must come back. Would recommend to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle and find solitude and quiet. Also, the home was extremely clean and amenities well thought out. We were attending the Poppy Festival so was close to everything we needed. Thank you again for making my Birthday so special! Donna H, Victoria TX
Peaceful, comforting, welcoming getaway for a couple
Apr 4, 2016 The studio was so comforting and inviting. It has amazing view out windows, great yard to cook out in. Interesting history of the studio of local artist. We were staying 3 nights ended up adding another one. Look forward to our next getaway at the studio, thinking winter for use of fireplace. Conro, TX
Great retreat location!
Mar 16, 2016 My husband and I unfortunately we’re unable to make the trip, but the rest of our group had a blast! Sheron and Dan were very accommodating. They took our group on a tour of their beautiful property (friends brought back pictures), allowed them to enjoy the farm animals, and were amazing hosts! The views found at Scurlock Farms were breathtaking! They have all said they want to visit again and my husband and I will make sure we are on that trip!!! Trevor, Dallas
A stay so nice we did it twice!
Our family rented Rocky Overlook (Luxury Rural Home), the Artist’s Studio (The Palette Pad) and Indian Bluff. Rocky Overlook and the Artist’s Studio are right next to each other – Indian Bluff is about a 10 minute walk from the other two houses. Sheron and her family were wonderful hosts – welcoming and there for assistance when you needed them but also let us have our own space. The homemade muffins were a welcome touch – our kids loved them! The houses were clean, well kept, well equipped and comfortable. Lots of things at each house for kids of all ages – toys, games, activities. We especially loved the garage of the Indian Bluff house which was great for our older boys with foosball, air hockey, basketball hoop, etc. and the terraces at the Rocky Overlook where we took advantage of the fire pit often. Both kids and adults enjoyed the tour of the property as well as hearing and reading about the history of the property and how each of the houses came to be. When we visited, there were lots of baby goats so we all had fun watching them. We also loved feeding the horses apples! Overall it is a great set of properties with lots of personality. We liked the properties so much that we returned for a second visit to enjoy time together at this scenic and unique venue. Ruth O, Houston
WONDERFUL
No detail could have been more thoughtful. A beautiful location, a beautiful property managed by beautiful people. If that is what you are looking for, you’ve found it. Suzanne R, Austin
Clean and roomy...very welcoming and accommodating
Our stay at Scurlock Farms was wonderful! The beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious and well furnished. There was nothing we were lacking and our hostess was precious…We housed 9 ladies in the house and had room for congregating and sharing. Our only regret was uncooperative weather, but the host lit us a cozy fire and everyone loved it. Linda – Rockdale, Texas
We LOVE Scurlock Farms! (and many more)
January 1, 2015 So peaceful & relaxing. Our family of four (including 11 year old boy and 9 girl) spent four days at Scurlock Farms during the first week in January. The home was so nice and comfortable – and perfect for the four of us but large enough to accommodate several more. Sheron & Dan made sure we had everything we needed including fresh firewood for the chilly nights. The kids enjoyed the dogs & horses – but especially the baby goats. We all loved the river which is a short walk through their pecan grove and we felt like we had the entire river to ourselves as we never saw another soul. We made good use of the built-in smoker on the patio and cozied up by the fireplace after dinner. The home is clean and well stocked with everything you would need including games, books, lots of local history and really comfortable beds! We hope to get back in the spring when all is blooming. Thanks again Sheron and Dan for a memorable stay! Cameron C

Great Family Gathering Place
We had a great family gathering ranging in age from 88 to 1 years! It worked well for all ages, plenty of room and lots of opportunities for activities. Property owners provided gracious welcome and hospitality. The history and beautiful artwork added to the overall beautiful setting. We look forward to returning! Shirley H.

Just Perfect! Date of Stay Jun 27, 2015

Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! Our boys (8 & 11) did not want to leave. They loved the river, the pecan orchard, and getting a close up look at the horses and goats. My husband enjoyed fishing on the river early in the morning and my favorite part was sitting in our chairs under those beautiful shade trees out front. It could not have been a more perfect getaway. Your house was stocked with everything we needed. The muffins were delicious and the watermelon in the fridge was such a nice treat when we returned from an afternoon on the river. We didn’t go into town a lot because we were enjoying the house and the property so much. We can’t wait to come back!! BAM Mansfield TX

Such a nice, relaxing place to stay!! With having a 4 month old we didn’t want to bother people in a hotel if she started crying and that’s when we found this home. Perfect for our family of 5 and our older 2 kids loved running around the property. We were very well taken care of and the homemade muffins really were a wonderful bonus… They were delicious!!! Would stay again for sure.

great place! Date of Stay Apr 30, 2015

We very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely home! It was the perfect spot for our extended family to spend a weekend while attending a wedding about 40 minutes nearby. This home is very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We appreciated the warm welcome and the muffins too! The outdoor patio was certainly a highlight! We loved being able to relax outside in the beautiful surroundings, chat, and play our guitars without worrying about disturbing anyone. We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay in the area. Anonymous

Peaceful setting, close to Austin and nightlife Date of Stay Nov 21, 2014

Large home with all the creature comforts minutes away from downtown Georgetown, restaurants, shopping and just a hop away from Austin. Quaint rural setting with large fields for our dog to run in – the property extends to the river making a nice jaunt/exploration excursion for the family. The owner was very nice providing home made muffins and fulfilled our special requests. Great place to stay – highly recommend. Jill R.

The home is so cozy and full of character! 4 adults and 2 kids stayed very comfortably. The kids loved playing outside on the gorgeous patio. We enjoyed the short walk to the river and spent hours searching for treasures and just being outdoors. The house is well stocked and the owners make checking in and out super easy! We also enjoyed Sheron’s delicious muffins. What a treat! Would definitely go back! Liz K.

Great home for family for our son’s wedding Date of Stay Sep 30, 2014

Our few days at Rocky Overlook were a very pleasant experience. There was more than enough room to do the work required to create the flower arrangements for the wedding reception for our son and his bride. A lot of preparation was required, and the owners of the property were very helpful in helping us find where we could find flowers and other supplies we needed. Overall a great experience. The weather was absolutely beautiful after a spectacular thunderstorm. We all mostly were outside in the very accommodating outdoor areas with nice decking and tables for the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. Many people walked down to look at the water features to see the frogs and other wildlife that were seeming to want to be included in our special evening. The very spacious home was a great place for us, and some of the groomsmen to show up on the day of the wedding and iron their clothes and otherwise prepare themselves for the upcoming wedding. Again, a wonderful place to spend a few days. I have to mention that the local farm dogs would show up in the morning just to say hello and then they would move along to do their farm dog stuff. I would be remiss if I failed to say that we had many of the cousins of our son and daughter show up and rent one of the other homes on the Scurlock Farms property. I have to say that I would go there again if I would be in the area – I would also suggest that the Lois Perkins Chapel at Southwestern University is a wonderful place to see – the stained glass windows and the pipe organ is in itself something special. The rolling green hills, farm animals to be seen along with the creeks, the river and wildlife are special. Thank you very much to the Scurlock family for making our stay so very pleasant. Regards from the Tom S family, CA

Beautiful, quite, well appointed home May 19, 2014

We have stayed at several Home Away homes over the past years, and Rocky Overlook is by far our favorite! The house was very clean, well organized and beautifully decorated, stocked with just about anything a person staying there could want or need. There were lots of videos, books and games to keep everyone busy! The owner personally checked with us the day we checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. She also brought us some wonderful homemade banana muffins and fruit that we really enjoyed….such a nice personal touch!! Rocky Overlook is conveniently located between Georgetown and Round Rock and a short distance to Austin, with lots of scenic country roads. We recommend the place to anyone wanting a peaceful, relaxing place! We will surely be going back!!

We had a great family gathering ranging in age from 88 to 1 years! It worked well for all ages, plenty of room and lots of opportunities for activities. Property owners provided gracious welcome and hospitality. The history and beautiful artwork added to the overall beautiful setting. We look forward to returning! Shirley H.

CATHY R. said… Date of Stay July 15, 2015 Terrific quick getaway from Dallas with the family

So much to say! The property was gorgeous, the house so unique and interesting. We love reading about the history of the place. The furnishings were terrific and comfortable and so interesting. And the views out the glass windows…stunning. We did puzzles, cooked on the grill, hiked down to the river, watched movies, went into town, you name it. Great place and super nice owners, from the music on the radio when we came in, to the homemade muffins, to the tour offer, couldn’t have asked to feel more at-home. We spent time on the river behind the property (bring your tubes!), Blue Hole, downtown Georgetown for music on the square and wine and shopping, kayaking and paddle boarding on Lake Georgetown, just about anything you could want. We would definitely come back to Scurlock Ranch.

Just Perfect! June 28, 2015

BAM

5/28-5/31 Date of Stay

Such a nice, relaxing place to stay!! With having a 4 month old we didn’t want to bother people in a hotel if she started crying and that’s when we found this home. Perfect for our family of 5 and our older 2 kids loved running around the property. We were very well taken care of and the homemade muffins really were a wonderful bonus… They were delicious!!! Would stay again for sure. Meg K

great place! Date of Stay May 1, 2015

Date of Stay April 10, 2015 Weekend visit to Southwestern University

We had a wonderful visit to Georgetown and stayed at a very beautiful home. While my son visited Southwestern my other son fished near the house and we had this great house instead of hotel to come and relax. Great stay! Chrissie M

Peaceful setting, close to Austin and nightlife Date of Stay November 22, 2014

Large home with all the creature comforts minutes away from downtown Georgetown, restaurants, shopping and just a hop away from Austin. Quaint rural setting with large fields for our dog to run in – the property extends to the river making a nice jaunt/exploration excursion for the family. The owner was very nice providing home made muffins and fulfilled our special requests. Great place to stay – highly recommend. Jill R.

October 11, 2014 Wonderful, family friendly getaway! Date of Stay Oct 15, 2014

Liz K.

Perfect country retreat Date of Stay August 16, 2014

We wanted a quiet, comfortable getaway in Hill Country and stayed 8/16-8/20. Very satisfied – definitely will make it back to visit. The home has a wonderful country atmosphere. My wife and daughters all agreed that they felt at home almost as soon as they walked in. (Sheron’s homemade muffins helped.) We found everything we needed in the kitchen. Both bedrooms are comfortable and spacious. Living areas are open and bright. The terraced back patio is a work of art. We spent much of our time there simply enjoying the peace and quiet. For those who like to dine out, Georgetown is a few minutes away with several options for meals. Really enjoyed the town square and shops. Also convenient to Austin. Pet friendly as well – our two dogs loved the open areas and the short walk through the Pecan grove to the river. Sheron and Dan, thank you for the hospitality, we will be seeing you again soon! STAYED HERE THE HOTTEST TIME OF YEAR Date of StayAug 21, 2014

The home’s history is amazing and I wish we were able to stay longer to be able to talk to Sheron and Dan more about it. Sheron and Dan were very nice hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our objective was to go see many of the small towns in the hill country surrounding Georgetown so this location was perfect for that. We would love to come back during a cooler time of year so we could enjoy being outdoors on their beautiful property. Thanks for the good memories, Cheryl, Kayla, Summer & Addison (from Minnesota), and Scott (from Texas). Cheryl K.

A Perfect Place for All Date of Stay July 19, 2014

We stayed here last week 07/19 through 07/26 and had a ball. This house is an ideal place to stay in this area. There is a lot to do and the place is easy to access. We had a large group of 7 and had plenty of room. Everyone had something that they wanted to do. There were plenty of antique shops in town for all of us to explore. A couple of the kids went to the movies one day. The water in the river was nice to sit in, but was just a little warm. So one day we went to the blue hole and floated on tubes and floats. The water there was nice and cool, plus it was free, which was a bonus. The river offered the boys and I a couple of days of nice fishing. We waded down the river and caught about 30 bass. Most were in the 10 to 12 inch range, but we caught several in the 1 to 1.5 lb range. These fish really were fighters. We had a blast. With that many people I usually cook a lot to try and keep the cost down. The kitchen was a delight. It is nice and roomy, has everything you need and the appliances are all in really good shape. There are plenty of dishes and silverware to feed all on. There was a cookbook on the desk that I read one morning and ended up cooking the cherry pie and butter nut ice cream. Both were excellent. I even bought a ice cream maker and had fun making our own ice cream. It had been years since I did that. I can’t remember the name of the cookbook, but will find it on line. In the early morning it was nice and cool on the back porch. I would read and listen to the birds. I found a humming bird feeder on the refrigerator and filled it with food. We had humming birds all week ( forgot to put it back). The sound from the pond fountain and the waterfall was also refreshing while sitting on the porch. All in all it was a great time had by all. Many thanks for the muffins they were great. We will surly look at staying here again. Scott

Great property for a family weekend away Date of Stay June 26, 2014

We really enjoyed our stay at Scurlock Farms. The house was beautiful as well as the rest of the property. The place is ideal for a family with everything you need to cookout and relax. I personally enjoyed the ability to hike around the property as well as bird along the water. Rene

Beautiful, quite, well appointed home Date of Stay May 19, 2014

Relaxation away from it all… Date of Stay April 11, 2014

We highly enjoyed our stay at the property, it really had a feel of a home away from home. Getting to relax on the very open and spacious patio while grilling and enjoying drinks with friends was the highlight of the stay! Anonymous

The Pallette Pad is the perfect location for exploring the Texas Hill Country.

The Pallette Pad is the perfect location for exploring the Texas Hill Country. We made forays to Georgetown, Fredricksburg, Austin, Round Lake, Colorado Bend State Park and Sun City. We golfed, hiked, shopped, dined, fed goats, hunted for fossils and relics and relaxed! Dan and Sheron are great hosts and terrific people – very helpful and most interesting. Sheron shared the legacy of the Scurlock Farms and of course, C.P. Montague. What a beautiful setting along the San Gabriel River and rich history. Many thanks to our hosts for making our trip extra special – we look forward to our return.
